Replacing WalthersTrack Turnout Snap-Action Spring
- Make sure the spring retainer plate on the underside of the turnout is removed. If the plate is still in place, carefully pry it off with a small, sharp bladed screwdriver or knife blade.
- With the turnout upside down, use a small flat-bladed screwdriver to hold the throwbar steady. This can be accomplished by inserting the blade of the screwdriver between the throwbar and the ties next to it, as shown above.
- While keeping the throwbar from moving, use a pair of tweezers or needlenose pliers to grab the snap-action spring and place its legs into the mounting holes. Carefully apply pressure to make sure that both legs are firmly seated in the holes.
- Replace the spring retainer plate by positioning the holes in the plate over the two mounting pins. Press the plate down to make sure that it seats securely. NOTE: The cover must be installed prior to operating the turnout points to avoid the possibility of the spring coming loose.
